STEM Camp **New Program**

This new program is designed for any child aged 8-12, particularly ones interested in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths aspect of sailing. This program will incorporate in the classroom modules and develop our sailing knowledge through those classroom lessons. For example, learn how to calculate the area of a triangle, measure the areas of our sails, hypothesize which boat is fastest based on sail area, then heading out on the water and test it ourselves!  

 

Session 1 (9hrs): June 4th- 6th (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday am)

Session 2 (9hrs) : July 2nd & 3rd (Monday & Tuesday am)

Session 3 (9hrs) : August 6th- 8th (Monday- Wednesday am)

 

 

Sea Squirts **New Program**

This is a new half day program designed for our youngest sailors, ages 5-7, to ignite their love for CYC, water safety, and having fun in boats. This class is a fun opportunity to meet new friends at the club, learn the basics of sailing (terminology/ parts of the boat, knots, seamanship, water safety and Corinthian spirit.) Please note these sailors will always have their life jackets on while on the dock/ boats/ in the water. No prior sailing experience needed.

 

Time: 9am- 12pm

Session 1: June 11th- 15th

Session 2: June 18th- 22nd

Session 3: July 9th- 13th

Session 4: July 16th- 20th

Session 5: July 23rd- 27th

Session 6: July 30th- August 3rd

 

 

Beginner Optimist

This is a two week course is designed for our beginner optimist sailors or (ages 8- 12/ under 110 pounds). It includes the basics of rigging a boat, sailing fundamentals, boat handling, seamanship (knots, weather etc), water safety and sportsmanship. Please note that the last day of this session we will encourage families to come down for an ‘America’s Cup Day’ to watch their sailors new skills in a fun afternoon regatta (boat decorations are highly encouraged)

Intermediate Optimist/ Green Fleet Optimist

This program requires the sailor having completed our beginner sailing program or equivalent. It provides an introduction to Opti racing and develops a greater understanding of upwind and downwind sailing ability. Coaches will cover all aspects of introductory racing on and off the water (boat set up, rigging & tuning)    in a fun, developmental way.    Sailors should feel comfortable participating in local and regional green fleet regattas after this program (please note that competition is NOT a requirement.)

Beginner C420

This course is designed for our beginner 420 sailors or those who haven’t completed a two week course before (ages 13 +). Intermediate C420/ Green Fleet C420

Sailors on the Optimist Race Team will work together to develop a team dynamic with the idea that no one improves without a challenge. Sailors will improve and focus on upwind and downwind race tactics and strategies as well as starts, team racing and more. The team will travel to local/ regional and national events, and should feel confident participating at USODA regattas. Sailors should have their own boat to participate in this program, if they don’t please contact Katrina at the earliest possible time.   

 

Time: 10am- 4:30pm

C420/ Laser/ Sunfish Race Team   

Sailors on the C420/ Laser/ Sunfish Race Team will work together to develop a team dynamic with the idea that no one improves without a challenge. Sailors will improve and focus on upwind and downwind race tactics and strategies as well as starts, team racing and more. The team will travel to local/ regional and national events, and should feel confident participating at National regattas. Sailors must have their own boat to participate in this program, if they don’t please contact Katrina at the earliest possible time

FunWeek

Fun Week is highlighted with adventurous sailing expeditions to Masonboro Island, The Cliffs, the Swimming Hole and Bird Island. Other activities may include; greased watermelon contest, scavenger hunts, picnic and tie died shirt making. Parents are requested to provide young sailors with a packed lunch and container of water for each class day. In the event of inclement weather class will be conducted in the club’s main ballroom. Movies, board games and other classroom type activities will be supervised by Sailing Instructors.
