There is a new bypass from the southern/western side of the Cape Fear River to Wrightsville Beach.
If you are arriving from the south of Wilmington via I-95 and/or US Hwys 17, 74, 76, please watch for the new signs to Wrightsville Beach. When US Hwys 17, 74 and 76 converge just before Wilmington, you will see signs for Wrightsville Beach. The new bypass will take you parallel with the Cape Fear River, (you will see the USS North Carolina Battleship on your right) then over a low rise drawbridge. You will immediately get in the right hand lane on that low rise drawbridge and follow signs to Wrightsville Beach.
The new bypass will save you about 20 mins.
If you are arriving from the north of Wilmington via I-40, you will follow the signs to Eastwood Rd and on to Wrightsville Beach. We are approximately 2 hrs. from Raleigh, 1 ¾ hrs. from I-95, 4 hrs. from Richmond, VA. if you drive the speed limit.
